The Ukrainians - Oi na hori

The Ukrainians is a band formed by British musicians of Ukrainian descent. They adapt Ukrainian folk music (as well as Western pop) into a mostly acoustic high-energy style that fuses punk and folk, much as The Pogues did for Irish traditional music.

They were formed after British indie band The Wedding Present recorded BBC radio sessions of Ukrainian folk songs between 1988-1991. This came about because Weddoes guitarist Peter Solowka was of Ukrainian origin. In 1991, Solowka left the Wedding Present and formed The Ukrainians, along with singer/violin player Len Liggins and mandolin player Roman Remeynes, who had participated in the BBC sessions.

Since their 1991 debut, they have released three albums, numerous singles and EP's, and a best-of collection.
